While nature’s choice of rendering him visually impaired could be perceived as unfortunate, Nisar Ahmad, hailing from Gundpora Rampora village in North Kashmir’s Bandipora District, refuses to let it deter his dreams.
Nisar’s journey commenced with his early education at the Govt. Middle School in his hometown. He stood among students who experienced the vibrant world around them, yet Nisar’s confidence and inner motivation were powerful enough to render his visual impairment inconsequential.
Despite his visual impairment, Nisar could have chosen a life confined indoors due to the inherent difficulties. However, with unwavering support from his parents and teachers, he embraced a ‘normal’ life filled with everyday achievements.
Nisar’s notebooks were meticulously maintained by teachers to ensure that his disability never hindered his education. Collaborating with classmates for assistance brought a sense of accomplishment and exhilaration.
Beyond academics, Nisar possesses a musical talent that has transformed him into a singing sensation. His visual impairment did not deter him from embarking on a musical journey. To Nisar, “Disability is not inability.” His method of creating music is akin to any other artist’s process. It merely requires a sound mind and a passionate heart.
While his deepest desire is to witness his parents with his own eyes, it remains an elusive dream. Nonetheless, Nisar maintains a firm belief in a brighter future, even in the face of visual impairment.
Recently, Nisar started his own recording studio, aptly named “The Melodies of Harmukh,” a testament to his tireless dedication to music and his ability to overcome challenges in the pursuit of his dreams.
He urges individuals with disabilities to harness their unique talents. He insists that disability should never be seen as a limitation but rather as a source of strength and resilience. Nisar’s message is clear: “Despite disability, our minds and confidence are our greatest assets. With determination, we can achieve great things. Stay focused on your goals, and success will surely follow.”
For Nisar, life is not solely about acquiring knowledge; it’s about nurturing self-assurance. He recalls moments from his childhood when the challenges of his visual impairment led to tears and uncertainties. Today, he strives to answer the myriad questions that could deter others from venturing forth. Nisar exemplifies that leaning on others and seeking assistance are the keys to breaking barriers.
