Baramulla, Sep 02: A one-day training programme on “Strengthening of Rainfed Production Systems for Sustainable Agriculture” was organized today under the Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP) in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, District Baramulla, Zone Kunzer.
According to a statement issued here, the programme was inaugurated by MLA Tangmarg, Farooq A. Shah, who attended as Chief Guest.
In his address, he complimented SKUAST-Kashmir for working tirelessly for the farming community by introducing modern technologies aimed at feeding the ever-growing population. He also urged farmers to adopt climate-resilient and resource-efficient practices to ensure the sustainable growth of rainfed agriculture in the Valley.
50 farmers from District Baramulla participated in the program.
Dr. Zahida Rashid, Training Coordinator, underlined the importance of rainfed areas in food and livelihood security and stressed on soil and water conservation, crop diversification, and livestock integration for enhanced productivity.
Prof. Sabiya Bashir sensitized farmers regarding integrated disease management of soil- and seed-borne diseases. Dr. Sabina Nasseer and Prof. Shabeena Majid spoke on strategies for strengthening rain fed agriculture and fruit crop production under rainfed conditions respectively.
