Traffic violations have come down in rural Kashmir: SSP Singh

Urges people to take precautions while driving on slippery roads

Ganderbal, Dec 21: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Rural Kashmir Ravinder Paul Singh Saturday said that there is a significant dip in the traffic violations in rural Kashmir following the improved discipline among commuters.
Singh stated this during his visit to Ganderbal’s Kangan area. “Traffic scenario has improved in rural Kashmir,” Singh said. “We have observed that after back-to-back drives against the violators, driving discipline has returned and people are following traffic rules in spirit. This has resulted in the smooth flow of traffic and that there is a fall in the traffic violations not only in Ganderbal but in other parts of rural Kashmir as well.”
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, Singh urged people to exercise caution during adverse weather conditions and adhere to advisory guidelines. He also conducted a review of the Zojila Pass to assess traffic management in the area.
Singh said that there is a need for drivers to maintain speed limits, particularly on frozen roads that become icy and slippery. He said that during recent operations, around 30 overloaded vehicles were fined and some were seized for various traffic violations. He advised passengers to ensure that vehicles are not overcrowded and comply with the capacity limits mentioned in the registration certificate (RC).
To further streamline traffic management, Singh stated that an advisory has been issued, along with contact numbers for the public to report violations. “If anyone witnesses a driver violating traffic guidelines, they should report it to us, and we will take the necessary legal action,” he added.

 

Police launch SIM verification drive in Gbl
To curb the rising cases of fraud and to prevent misuse of mobile phone SIMs, Police in Ganderbal district of Central Kashmir Saturday launched a massive verification drive on vendors selling SIM cards of various companies.
The drive aims to verify the authenticity of documents submitted by subscribers and ensure that SIM vendors are adhering to the guidelines set by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). The verification drive is a proactive measure to ensure that mobile connections are not misused for malicious activities as well.
