Tough contest on cards as QFs lineup drawn in 68th NSG U-17 Girls Football C’ship

Jammu, Dec 08: The tough contest is on cards as it would be the battle of almost equals in the last eight stage as the quarterfinals lineup has been drawn in the ongoing 68th National School Games U-17 Girls Football Championship, being organised by the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports, under the auspices of School Games Federation of India (SGFI) at Sainik School Nagrota here.
After the completion of the league matches in the morning session today, young female footballers of formidable teams showed extraordinary soccer skills in the pre-quarters to guide their sides to convincing victories and seal berth in the quarterfinals.
The teams which made it to the quarterfinals included Jharkhand, Gujarat, Manipur, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Rajasthan.
Earlier, in the pre-quarters, Jharkhand blanked Chattisgarh by ten goals to nil (10-0), Gujrat beat Tripura by four goals to three (4-3) via penalty shootouts, Manipur trounced Punjab by two goals to one (2-1), Tamil Nadu drubbed Odisha by two goals to nil (2-0), Haryana defeated Bihar by a solitary goal (1-0),
Maharashtra got the better of KVS by four goals to two (4-2), West Bengal prevailed over Kerala by five goals to four (5-4) via penalty shootouts and Rajasthan thrashed IPSC by four goals to nil (4-0).
Meanwhile, as part of the historic series of the 68th National School Games in four sports disciplines, the mega soccer event is being held under the patronage of Minister for Sports, Satish Sharma; Secretary Youth Services and Sports, Sarmad Hafeez and under the chairmanship of Director General Youth Services and Sports, Rajinder Singh Tara.
In this month-long series of 68th National School Games three events of Judo, Fencing and Wushu have already been completed and the fourth one that’s Football U-17 Boys & Girls is in progress. Over 4000 athletes and officials have participated in these games.
