Jammu, Dec 09: Swachh Bharat BIG Cricket League 2024 continued to captivate cricket enthusiasts on Day 6 at the Jammu Sports Club Kot Tawa, with two riveting matches that beautifully combined the love for cricket with the league’s mission of promoting cleanliness under the theme “Let’s Swing for Swachhta.” The day’s proceedings were graced by Shiv Kumar Sharma, IAS, DIG Jammu/Samba/Kathua Range, who commended the league for seamlessly blending cricket with social responsibility. In his address, he stated, “This tournament is a remarkable initiative that showcases the transformative power of sports in fostering unity and spreading awareness about cleanliness. It is truly inspiring to witness cricket being used as a vehicle for positive social change.”
In the first match, Shaheed Bhagat Singh CC locked horns with Infra Business. Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Infra Business delivered a dominant bowling performance, restricting Shaheed Bhagat Singh CC to a total of 108 runs. Amrit Pal Singh was the top scorer for Shaheed Bhagat Singh CC with a knock of 23 runs.
However, the spotlight was on Amir Wani, who bowled a sensational spell, taking four wickets for just 22 runs in his four overs. Infra Business chased down the target in just 8.4 overs with eight wickets in hand, powered by Jehaanveer Singh’s aggressive 47-run innings. For his match-defining spell, Amir Wani was named the Man of the Match.
The second match featured Jal Shakti Warriors against District Administration Samba XI. After winning the toss, DC XI Samba chose to bat first and posted an imposing total of 180 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Aditya Sambyal led the charge with a solid knock of 49 runs. Chasing the target, Jal Shakti Warriors faltered against a disciplined bowling attack spearheaded by Shashi from DC XI Samba. Shashi’s all-round brilliance stole the show as he contributed 21 crucial runs with the bat and took four key wickets, earning him the Man of the Match title.
As the tournament progresses, it now enters the much-anticipated quarterfinals stage from tomorrow. In the first quarterfinal, Chief Secretary XI will face off against District Administration Samba XI, while the second quarterfinal will see an exciting clash between Infra Business and Shivya Ayurveda.
The tournament, a celebration of cricket and social responsibility, is proudly supported by the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Directorate of Rural Sanitation-J&K, as the title sponsor. It is presented by the Jal Shakti Department and powered by SMVD Narayana Super Speciality Hospital. Associate partners include Shree Bajrang Bali Contract Company, Jammu Hev’s, My Physio, and Aroma Muticusine Family Restaurant as the refreshment partner.
