Jammu, Mar 01: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National General Secretary Tarun Chugh on Saturday accused Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and NC President Farooq Abdullah of misleading the people of the Union Territory with their false narratives. He slammed the Omar-led government for failing to deliver on the promises made in their manifesto.
Chugh in a statement issued here said Omar is making such statements on Article 370 only to shield himself from the tough questions of his own party workers and supporters. He asserted that Article 370 is long gone and will never return.
“Today’s Jammu and Kashmir has transformed into a region of peace and prosperity, leading the nation in tourism. Under PM Modi’s leadership, Jammu and Kashmir has hosted prestigious international events like the G20, proving its emergence as a thriving hub of development,” he added.
Responding to Omar Abdullah’s claims of ‘fabricated peace’ in Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP leader said, “PM Modi’s zero-tolerance policy against terrorism is yielding results, and we are committed to eradicating terrorism from this land completely.”
Taking on Farooq Abdullah’s call for dialogue with Pakistan, Chugh said terrorism and talks cannot go hand in hand. He criticised the senior Abdullah for “acting like a PRO of Pakistan” instead of standing with the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Instead of advocating for talks with Pakistan, he should ask his son and Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister to focus on fulfilling promises and working for the betterment of the people,” he said.
Meanwhile, Tarun Chugh described the formation of a cabinet sub-committee to fight drugs in Punjab as “yet another political gimmick” by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government.
Chugh in a statement issued here said it took 36 months for the AAP government led by Bhagwant-Kejriwal duo to take this step which should have been taken within 36 hours of assuming power in 2022.
He ridiculed how cabinet ministers would perform the task of police to check drug peddlers. “Ever since the AAP government came to power in Punjab drug mafias have flourished as much as the liquor mafias in Punjab. In fact, a dope test needed to be conducted on the cabinet committee members and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to make sure they meant business,” he said.
The BJP leader said that after the party’s crushing defeat in Delhi Assembly elections, the AAP has suddenly woken up to become hyperactive in Punjab. “This is a cosmetic exercise which will expose the AAO inefficiency and lack of commitment once again in days to come,” he said.
Chugh said it would be another pretext for the AAP government to splurge taxpayers’ money on fake advertisements. “We have seen it in the field of employment and health as well and now a new gimmick would be played on the people of Punjab,” he added.
