Srinagar, July 31: A 10-day special coaching camp for fencing, organized by the J&K Amateur Fencing Association in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council, commenced at Bakshi Stadium. The camp was inaugurated by Divisional Sports Officer (Central), Javid Ur Rehman, JKAS, with the inauguration function presided over by Divisional Sports Officer (Kashmir), Mrs. Nusrat Gazal.
In his inaugural address, Javid Ur Rehman expressed satisfaction with the participation of numerous fencers from different parts of Kashmir. He emphasized the potential of the participants to become strong contenders in national and international competitions. Rehman also commended the J&K Amateur Fencing Association for its efforts in encouraging mass participation in the sport.
The camp will provide specialized coaching from Shotu Lal Sharma, a J&K Sports Council coach who has produced several international and national medal winners, along with Vansh Mahajan. Sharma highlighted that the camp aims to spread the sport of fencing in Kashmir and improve the skills and techniques of the fencers.
Secretary of the J&K Sports Council, Mrs. Nuzhut Gul, congratulated the fencers for their commitment and widespread participation. She expressed hope that the participants will excel in future competitions, bringing laurels to Jammu & Kashmir and the country. Mrs. Gul reiterated the J&K Sports Council’s commitment to supporting and providing resources and infrastructure for the development of sportspersons.
