Baramulla, March 10: Ranjot Singh, a talented under-19 cricketer from North Kashmir’s Sopore area, has been selected for the National Cricket Academy (NCA) by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), making his hometown proud.
Singh is one of the four players from Jammu and Kashmir who have been selected for the NCA, where the BCCI will conduct national-level camps to further develop the skills of budding players in junior age groups, both men and women.
The camps will be held under the aegis of the NCA at different locations across the country from April 24 to May 18.
Singh, who has been consistently performing for the U-19 team of Jammu and Kashmir in the last two years, said his journey to the NCA has been tough and challenging.
He has been playing on different platforms for Jammu and Kashmir and has never been dropped.
“I have put my efforts into performing well on all the platforms wherever I have gotten a chance to play,” Singh said.
“My dream is to play for the national team one day.”
Singh’s notable contribution came last year when the left-arm spinner bowled a remarkable spell against Kerala and set a record for the best bowling figure in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy by picking 8 wickets for just 25 runs.
In addition to Singh, three more cricketers from the JKCA have been selected for the NCA camps. They include wicketkeeper-batter Rhydham Sharma from Poonch, talented leg spinner Ritvik Jaitely from Jammu, and hard-hitting middle-order batsman Mousub Bhat from Pulwama.
Singh has a message for the youth: “Work hard and believe in your hard work, move forward to follow your dreams, and do your best for yourself, your family, society, state, and nation in whatever situation will come.”
He also appealed to Kashmiri cricketers, especially youth, not to play mat cricket more if they have a dream to achieve something.
