Srinagar, Nov 03: The Division of Veterinary Clinical Complex at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Kashmir (SKUAST-K), has successfully conducted two Entrepreneurship Awareness Programmes (EAPs) focusing on “Addressing Farm Animal Infertility and Management to Improve Profitability and Sustainability.” The events were sponsored by the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India.
The awareness programs took place in Haji Bagh, Budgam, and Dignibal, Ganderbal, drawing participation from approximately 80-90 unemployed youth and progressive dairy farmers. The primary aim was to equip attendees with scientific knowledge and techniques to address reproductive challenges in livestock, thereby enhancing profitability and ensuring sustainable dairy farming practices.
Head of the Division, Prof. (Dr.) Amatul Muhee, graced the events as Chief Guest, emphasizing the importance of increasing livestock rearing through scientific methods to boost livelihood opportunities and generate sustainable income. Prof. Muhee highlighted the potential for dairy farming to become a more lucrative sector if reproductive issues in livestock are effectively managed.
Dr. Gh Rasool Bhat, Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator, inaugurated the sessions by welcoming participants and shedding light on the common reproductive issues affecting livestock and their significant impact on dairy farmers’ income. He underscored the critical need for awareness and practical interventions.
Dr. Farooz Ahmad Lone and Dr. Asloob Ahmad Malik, Associate Professors from the Division of Animal Reproduction, Gynaecology, and Obstetrics, educated farmers on scientific estrus detection methods and the optimal timing for artificial insemination in dairy cows, essential for improving conception rates.
Dr. Khursheed Ahmad Sofi, Assistant Professor, provided insights on managing infertility and obstetrical problems in dairy cows, while Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad and Dr. Gousia Nazir from the Animal Husbandry Department briefed attendees on existing government schemes available to support dairy farmers.
The programs concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Mohd Iqbal Yatoo, Assistant Professor at the Veterinary Clinical Complex, who acknowledged the participation and contributions of all involved.
