Anantnag, Nov 12: Mountain Research Center for Field Crops (MRCFC)-SKUAST Khudwani kick startED a six days training programmme on “recycling farm waste for augmenting organic farming” for the extension functionaries of line department and Krishi Vigyan Kendras of varsity.
The inaugural session commenced with a warm welcome of dignitaries and trainees by Prof Tasneem Mubarak, Chief Scientists (Agronomy) and course coordinator of the training. He highlighted the significance of the programme and encouraged trainees to be interactive throughout the programme so that concrete recommendations emerge from the training.
He said the trainees feedback is essential to understand the field level problems in the execution of programmes related to organic farming and devise suitable interventions. He further informed the house that some prominent experts from ICAR will also be sharing their experience with the trainees during these days.
Prof Parmeet Singh, Chief Scientist Agronomy and course Director gave an overview of the training and explained major targets under the HADP project ‘Alternate system of Agriculture for sustainability’.
Speaking on the occasion Prof Ashaq Hussain Senior Agronomist (MRCFC) highlighted the importance of farm waste management in current agriculture scenario and gave an overview of different aspects of the waste management being covered during the training period.
Prof Najeeb-ur Rehman Sofi, Associate Director Research MRCFC-SKUAST-Kashmir who was the chief guest on the occasion gave a brief introduction of the center and its contribution in field crop research.
He said that this training programme provided a great opportunity to discuss the subject of training and understand the significance of farm waste management for carbon sequestration, emission of green house gases and lessening costs of nutrient inputs.
The inaugural session ended with the vote of thanks from Prof Farooq Ahmad Sheikh. Others present on the occasion included SKUAST-K Scientists of MRCFC Khudwani, MRCS Sagam, District Agriculture Officer and other officers of Department of Agriculture and KVKS of South Kashmir.
