Srinagar, May 25: Division of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, SKUAST-K, Wadura, in collaboration with Agriculture Production and Farmers Welfare Department organised an Orientation Programme on millets under the ongoing weeklong (May 22 to 28, 2023) campaign of millets.
The theme is “Climate Resilient and Smart Agriculture in Light of International Year of Millets – 2023. The programme was held at the conference hall of the Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura, where officers from the Department of Agriculture, District Baramulla, progressive farmers and students from various schools and colleges participated.
Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Raihana Habib Kanth gave a brief about the weeklong campaign of millets, its importance and its benefits. Prof. Amal Saxena (Head, Division of Agronomy) gave a detailed presentation regarding the scope, health benefits & production technology of millets.
The campaign started on May 22 with an awareness programme on nutri-cereals for nutritional security and an exhibition of seeds of different millets; along with the sowing of different millets at the Agronomy Research Farm of the Faculty. In addition, sensitization programmes were also conducted at Apna School, Wadura and Govt. High School, Wadura, where the scientists from the Division of Agronomy delivered awareness lectures on Shree Anna (Millets) for Next Generation Climate Smart Agriculture. Mr. Yadvinder Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer, District Baramulla and his team of Subject Matter Specialists also spoke on the occasion.
