SKUAST Jammu VC chairs 5th SAC meeting of KVK, Samba

Samba, Aug 17: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Samba organized 5th Scientific Advisory Committee meeting at KVK, Head Quarter Samba under the chairmanship of Prof. B.N. Tripathi, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu. The programme was attended by Prof. S.K. Gupta Director Research, Prof. Amrish Vaid Director Extension, Prof Hema Tripathi Assoc. Director Extension, Prof. Vikas Tandon Dean FoHF, Prof. Jasvinder Singh Sudan, Dean, Faculty of Dairy Technology, Prof.Susheel Kumar Sharma Dean FoAE SKUAST Jammu, all the district Officers from district Samba and Staff of KVK Samba. The meeting was organized to deliberate upon the progress report of 2023-24 and to finalize the action plan for the year 2024-25.
Prof. B.N Tripathi, Vice Chancellor in his presidential address directed KVK to conduct extensive tour of different blocks of Samba District and gather all the major problems being faced by the farmers/farm women for their early solutions.
He suggested that a maximum awareness on Value addition of Fruits and Vegetables, promotion of Protected Cultivation and dairy farming to the farmers of the Samba district be given. He laid emphasis on increasing the farmer income manifold through various agro technological interventions and documentation of all the works.
Prof. S.K. Gupta appreciated the work done by the KVK, Samba and assured all cooperation to KVK for the welfare of the farmers from directorate of research. Prof. Amrish Vaid Director Extension also lauded the work done of KVK Samba and suggested many things for the welfare of the farming community. Prof. Vikas Tandon Dean FoHF suggested some horticultural interventions to improve the horticulture sector in the district. Prof. Jasvinder Singh Sudan, Dean, Faculty of Dairy Technology laid thrust on improving the animal sector in the district. He also extended his any type of support as and when needed by the KVK Samba. Prof.Susheel Kumar Sharma Dean FoAE suggested many interventions needed for farm mechanization in Samba. He also extended his all type of help to KVK Samba as and when desired. Prof. Hema Tripathi, Assoc Director Extension, suggested many things for their proper corrections, presentation and documentation for maximum visibility of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Samba. She also lauded the work done by the KVK Samba for the welfare of the farming community.
Earlier, the meeting was initiated with the welcome address of Prof. Sanjay Khajuria, Chief Scientist and Head KVK, Samba. He presented the detail Annual Progress Report of KVK, Samba for the year 2023-24 and action taken report towards the suggestions received during the fourth SAC meeting. During the deliberations, Prof. Sanjay Khajuria appraised the august house about the Salient Research and Extension achievements of KVK, Samba including the ICAR Award for Natural Farming as well as Appreciation Award from NITI Aayog. The action plan for the financial year 2023-24 was also presented before the house for the discussion and approval. He also deliberated on various issues and urged upon KVK Team to work with more dedication and enthusiasm with the farmers for increasing the income of farming community in the Samba district.
S.Madan Gopal Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer Samba suggested many things and appreciated the Head KVK Samba for his tireless efforts and very good coordination among the line departments. Dr. Rahul Dev, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Samba also discussed about the various issues related to the animal husbandry in the district. Mr.Sagar Singh DFO Samba discussed about the mega plantation drive under them theme Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam with the coordination of KVK Samba and suggested to train the forest officers in various aspects .Other district officers also suggested many things which were duly incorporated in the action plan.
Prof. B.N Tripathi, Vice Chancellor SKUAST Jammu in his concluding remarks highly appreciated the work and conduct of KVK Samba and directed to work with more zeal in close association with line departments.
Pritam Chand, progressive farmer and SAC Member actively participated in meeting and highlighted the role of the KVK activities undertaken in district Samba for the benefit of the farming community. He thanked Vice-Chancellor for reaching out the KVK Samba team in the nook and corner of the district. Smt. Jyoti Rani Progressive Farm Woman also actively participated.
