Srinagar, Sep 02: G.M. Shaheen, President of the Janata Dal (United) (JDU), has formally appealed to both the Supreme Court of India and the Election Commission of India, calling for urgent intervention regarding the misuse of red flags by political parties. Shaheen’s appeal centers on allegations that members of the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the National Conference (NC) have been displaying red flags on their vehicles in contravention of established protocols.
In his petition, Shaheen argues that the use of these red flags, which are typically reserved for specific official purposes, is being exploited for political gains. This misuse, he contends, not only undermines the integrity of established norms but also gives certain parties an undue advantage during the election period.
Shaheen’s appeal emphasizes the need for strict enforcement of the protocol to ensure a fair and level playing field. He has requested that the Supreme Court and the Election Commission take decisive action against the PDP and NC to rectify the situation and prevent further violations.
The Election Commission of India is tasked with overseeing the adherence to electoral regulations, while the Supreme Court has the authority to adjudicate on legal matters concerning protocol violations. Shaheen’s appeal highlights the growing concern over the enforcement of electoral norms and the need for transparency in the political process.
