The golden ‘Sengol’, which was kept in Allahabad Museum has been moved to the national capital ahead of the inauguration of the new Parliament building.

Notably, ‘Sengol’, which marked the symbol of the transfer of power from the British to India, will be kept as a legacy in the new Parliament building.

The Curator of the Allahabad Museum, Waman Wankhede told ANI that the whole collection of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru has been kept in Allahabad Museum and the historic ‘Sengol’ was transferred to the National Museum last year.

The Curator of the Allahabad Museum, Waman Wankhede told ANI, “The foundation stone of this museum was also laid by former PM Nehru. He donated more than 1200 materials to Allahabad Museum, under then-curator SC Kala. Nehru wanted his whole collection to be kept here only. Along with all the things, this golden stick was also kept in the collection”.

“It (Sengol) is a 162 cm long stick with gold polish. It was transferred to the national museum on November 4, 2022,” he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a decision to adopt the Sengol as a national symbol of the Amrit Kaal. The new building of Parliament will witness the very same event, with Adheenam (Priests) repeating the ceremony and vesting the PM with the Sengol.

The same Sengol from 1947 will be installed by the Prime Minister in the Lok Sabha, prominently close to the Speaker’s podium. It will be displayed for the Nation to see and will be taken out on special occasions. (ANI)
