Security tightened on Art-370 withdrawal anniversary: Police

‘No restrictions on public movement’

Srinagar, Aug 4: Tight security measures have been put in place ahead of the 5th anniversary of the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A. Additional troops have been deployed at sensitive locations in Srinagar, officials said.
A police officer at PCR told Rising Kashmir that as per the directions of IGP Kashmir, security has been beefed across Srinagar city, with forces keeping a tight vigil on adjoining areas and major highways.
“There will be no restrictions in any part of the city and as a precautionary measures, security has been intensified in the region. Sensitive spots in the city have been covered to thwart any untoward incident on the 5th August, that marks the 5th year of its abrogation,” he said.
The officer said that they have set up makeshift bunkers to keep track of the situation and streamline the visitors. Every citizen should feel secure and if anybody celebrates this day, should go ahead without any fear, he added.
BJP’s Media Incharge Kashmir, Advocate, Sajid Yousuf Shah said that on 5th of August, party’s Kashmir Unit is going to celebrate the historic abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A.
Two days ago, Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone, V.K. Birdi-IPS chaired a security review meeting and stressed the need to enhance security of vulnerable targets and said that stressed on security and counter-insurgency plans for peaceful upcoming events.
He emphasized the need to review and enhance the security plans and to design effective counter-insurgency strategies for smooth and peaceful conduct of the forthcoming events.
During the meeting, IGP Kashmir directed the officers to increase surveillance upon anti-national elements and to increase area domination in their respective areas.
He stressed the need to enhance the security of vulnerable targets and to ensure foolproof security arrangements for the upcoming events.
IGP Birdi also instructed the officers to increase cordon and search operations along sensitive areas of the valley and national highways in particular.
Article 370 of the Constitution, which granted special status and autonomy to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, was abrogated in 5th August 2019, the state was divided into two UT’s that is J&K and Ladakh.
