Srinagar, Oct 30: Following twin terror attacks in Kashmir, including killing of a laborer and injury to a police officer over the past three days, security measures have been enhanced to avert any additional unfortunate incidents in the area, officials on Monday said.
A senior officer at Police Department told Rising Kashmir that security has been tightened in Srinagar and south Kashmir districts. Strict vigil is being maintained by security agencies to thwart such attacks in the future, he said.
In view of prevailing security situation, the additional deployment of forces of Police and paramilitary forces have at vital spots in Srinagar and along highways and major junctions in south Kashmir,” he said.
The officer said that all SSPs and other security agencies have been asked to remain alert in view of recent attacks. All measures are taken and SOPs have been put in place. We try to implement the SOPs in an error-free manner, he said.
Both police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have intensified patrolling, vehicle checking, and frisking at various flashpoints in southern Kashmir and other parts of the Valley,” he said.
The officer said they are working on leads and the attackers will either be arrested or neutralized soon.
“Loopholes are being plugged in to avoid such incidents in the future. We have taken review meetings following the attacks,” he said.
The move comes after Valley witnessed two back-to-back terrorist attacks in which non-local laborer was killed and police inspector was critically injured during the past three in the region.
On Monday, a man named Mukesh Kumar, hailing from Uttar Pradesh and employed as a laborer in South Kashmir’s Pulwama, fell victim to a targeted attack by terrorists.
This incident marks the first such killing in the Valley this year. Notably, just a day earlier, Inspector Masroor Ahmad was critically injured in a terrorist assault while playing cricket at Srinagar’s Eidgah ground.
This incident follows a pattern of violence, as earlier in the year, on July 13, three migrant workers from Bihar were wounded when terrorists opened fire on them in South Kashmir’s Shopian.
Last year, 10 people from outside the state, including a bank manager from Rajasthan and a teacher, were killed and over a dozen injured in a series of terrorists attacks, mostly in south Kashmir.
