Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has called a high level meeting today on 11th January to review the security preparedness in Jammu region. The meeting will focus on the security preparedness in the wake of the repeated targeting of the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch. Terror attack that claimed the innocent lives last year on 21st December at Dera Ki Gali in Surankote Tehsil of Poonch district led to sacrifice of four army jawans when terrorists ambushed two army vehicles. The meeting will take stock of the situation on ground. This comprehensive meeting will be attended by the top brass of the Jammu and Kashmir UT administration that includes the civil, police administration besides the senior officers of the intelligence agencies. Rajouri –Poonch has emerged as theatre of war for quite some time. Nineteen soldiers  have been martyred  in four terrorist attacks  during the 2023. Security forces have also given the decisive reply by eliminating more than 30 terrorists in this area. Thus sending a clear message that any attempt to create law and order problem will be aptly dealt. But this consecutive strike rate of the terrorists in this region is a cause of concern. There has been a relative peace in other eight districts of Jammu region. But the convergence of terror operatives and subversives in this region needs a proper policy. So that the atmosphere of peace that is limping back to normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir is sustainable. Loss of lives. Be it of security forces or the civilians demotivates the masses and creates a fear psychosis. That has to be handled and a sense of security established among the masses. Home Minister, Amit Shah was scheduled to visit Jammu and review the security situation and developmental works. But his visit has been deferred due to inclement weather. His continuous monitoring of the security grid in Jammu and Kashmir recently in New Delhi has given a tough message to the terror operatives and given a sense of confidence to the common masses that the New Delhi is concerned about the security of the people in Jammu and Kashmir. This meeting must explore the strategies to choke the supply lines of the terrorists so that they cannot inflict the damages on the security forces. Not only that.  Options must be explored to increase the security of the masses. Need is to take the people into confidence and sensitise them about the nefarious designs of the anti-national forces who are hell-bent to inflict damage to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the nation. It must be kept in mind that the security force that includes Jammu and Kashmir police has been doing a great service to the nation amid worst challenges. The nature of ambushes that have taken place last year in Rajouri-Poonch region makes it clear these terror activities are guided by sustained mechanism to inflict heavy damages on the security forces. As such there is an urgent need to equip the security grid in the Jammu region. The professional handling of the terror networks in the Kashmir valley by the security agencies has forced the terrorists to shift the theatre of war from Jammu to Kashmir. The continuous monitoring and pre-emptive measures taken by the LG administration to check mate the anti-national forces in Jammu and Kashmir from time to time has given hope to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Sending a message that terror will be eliminated at all costs. This meeting generates a hope that the New Year will be a period of peace and harmony for the people of the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory.
