SRINAGAR: The State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT) of Jammu & Kashmir, in partnership with the office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs, and Trademarks (CGPDTM), has successfully registered 115 toy designs created by students from J&K under Design Rights. The move is in alignment with the Toycathon 2023 initiative.
An official from SCERT-JK informed Rising Kashmir that a total of 115 toy designs from students in the Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory have been officially registered under Design Rights by CGPDTM. This initiative was conducted without any financial burden on the students, as all arrangements were managed by JKSCERT and the Government of India.
“From the Jammu Division, 51 toy designs have been registered under Design Rights by CGPDTM, while the Kashmir Division accounted for 64 registered designs. Once the students’ toy designs are registered with CGPDTM, they are protected from being copied,” the official said.
The Toycathon 2023 initiative, a pioneering effort by any SCERT in India, witnessed remarkable engagement from around 125,000 students in Jammu and Kashmir. These students developed innovative, educational, and culturally significant toys and games, aligning with the “Make in India” vision.
Zoha Asif, a student from Saint Joseph School Baramulla said she designed a toy called the Racing Board Toy as part of the Toycathon initiative 2023. Having participated in competitions at the school, district, and Union Territory levels, her toy design has been officially registered under Design Rights by CGPDTM, ensuring its protection against unauthorised reproduction.
Zoha said that in response to the growing issue of mobile addiction, she created a toy that allows children to engage in play during their leisure time, providing an enjoyable gaming experience.
“The Toycathon initiative by JKSCERT offers students the chance to design toys using materials readily available in their homes, allowing for personal creativity in their designs,” she said.
