Srinagar, June 14: The Health Department Kashmir on Friday conducted a training program on pre-hospital trauma care and management for 108 emergency medical technicians of JKEMS ahead of the annual AmarnathYatra.
The training was held at the Regional Institute of Health and Family Welfare (RIHFW) Dhobivan in Baramulla. The training program was inaugurated by Principal of Regional Institute of Health and Family Welfare Dhobiwan, Dr Mohammad IqbalBhat.
He appreciated 108 ambulance services and said it is the backbone of the health department.
A spokesperson of DHSK said the program was aimed to equip EMTs with advanced life-saving skills and to enhance their preparedness for deployment during the yatra.
“The training focused on several key areas, including basic life support, environmental emergencies, traumatic patient assessment, medical patient assessment, respiratory emergencies, and triage in mass casualty incidents,” he said.
Master Trainer, Mohammed Shaffi of the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir provided specialized training on BLS and managing high altitude sickness, ensuring effective response to life-threatening emergencies at high altitudes.
The training sessions were led by Dr Ali Sheikh and Dr Mir Abid. The second day of the training was attended by the Nodal Officer of 108/102 services and State Health Transport Officer of DHSK, Er. Sajid Amin.
Mushtaq Ahmed, Project Head of 108 J&KEMS said that every year 15 to 20 Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support ambulances are deployed at various strategic base locations, on Chandanwari and Baltal routes as per the requirement of the health department to ensure timely medical services for the pilgrims of Yatra.
He said one-day basic life support training will also be provided to the drivers of the 108 ambulance services deployed for AmarnathYatra.
Meanwhile, all healthcare arrangements are being put in place while special base hospitals are being set up at Baltal and Pahalgam ahead of the Yatra.
This year the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir has introduced several new interventions aimed to ensure hassle free healthcare facilities during the annual Yatra which will commence in the valley on June 29.
