Srinagar, May 10: People’s Conference (PC) President Sajad Lone on Friday accused the National Conference (NC) of neglecting the people’s interests and perpetuating oppression.
Addressing the party workers in the Pattan area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, Lone, highlighted the significance of the ongoing election, saying that the time has come for Kashmiris to elect representatives who will truly advocate for their rights and aspirations.
He criticised the NC MPs for remaining silent spectators in Parliament, particularly after August 5, 2019, saying they failed to address the pressing issues faced by the Kashmiri people.
Drawing attention to the historical context, Sajad mentioned the alleged rigging of the 1987 elections and held the NC responsible for the emergence of a culture of violence and bloodshed in Kashmir. He highlighted the stark social divide in the valley, condemning the NC for representing only a fraction of the population while neglecting the vast majority.
Accusing the NC Chief Dr Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah of being complicit in civilian deaths during their respective tenures, the PC President pledged to eradicate “oppressive laws” once he enters Parliament, promising not to compromise on the dignity of the Kashmiri people.
In a direct jab at Omar Abdullah, he drew attention to their differing backgrounds, dismissing the NC leader as a “tourist” and condemning his administration’s oppressive tactics. He shrugged off Omar’s attempts to undermine him, confident in the electorate’s decision to end the former chief minister’s “frustration” in the upcoming election on May 20 – the day the Baramulla constituency will go to polls.
