Srinagar, Mar 12: The Jammu and Kashmir government has disbursed ₹910.09 lakh under the Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB) schemes in Baramulla district, generating 2,058 jobs, including 266 in Sopore. The details were shared in response to an unstarred ques-tion by MLA Sopore, Irshad Rasool Kar.
Under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), Baramulla district received ₹709.72 lakh for the establishment of 272 units, providing employment to 1,632 in-dividuals. In Sopore, ₹124.36 lakh was disbursed for 39 units, creating 218 jobs.
Meanwhile, under the Jammu and Kashmir Rural Employment Generation Programme (JKREGP), Baramulla was allocated ₹200.37 lakh for 71 units, resulting in 426 jobs. Sopore received ₹31.5 lakh under the same scheme, supporting 12 units and generating 48 employ-ment opportunities.
The government also provided details regarding the eligibility criteria for financial assistance under these schemes. For funding up to ₹5 lakh in the service sector and ₹10 lakh in the manufacturing sector under PMEGP, no educational qualification is required. However, for amounts above these limits—up to ₹20 lakh in the service sector and ₹50 lakh in the manu-facturing sector—applicants must have at least an 8th-grade qualification.
Under JKREGP, matric pass candidates can receive up to ₹10 lakh in the manufacturing sec-tor, ₹5 lakh in the service/trading sector, and ₹10 lakh in agriculture and allied sectors. Those with a 10+2 qualification can avail up to ₹15 lakh in manufacturing, ₹10 lakh in ser-vice/trading, and ₹15 lakh in agriculture and allied fields. Graduates qualify for assistance up to ₹20 lakh in manufacturing, ₹15 lakh in service/trading, and ₹20 lakh in agriculture and allied sectors, while postgraduates are eligible for up to ₹25 lakh in all three sectors.
It further said that despite these financial aid mechanisms, the government confirmed that no trade fairs or exhibitions were held in Baramulla district, including Sopore. However, an awareness camp was organized at Dak Bungalow Sopore on December 9, 2024, to educate unemployed youth about self-employment schemes.
“Additionally, similar awareness drives are being conducted under the ‘Back to Village’ initi-ative and other district-level programs to inform aspiring entrepreneurs about available op-portunities,” the government said in a reply.
