Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday said that it has solved robbery case by arrested an accused and recovered dummy weapon from his possession in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

A Police spokesperson said that on 14/02/2023, an information was received by Police Station Chadoora to the effect that on 13/02/2023 during wee hours at Badipora Chadoora, a person while on his way to Masjid was intercepted by an unidentified armed person and robbed him of some cash.

“Upon this information, a case, FIR number 15/2023under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Chadoora and investigation was taken up”, he said.

The spokesperson said that during the course of investigation, after strenuous efforts, several suspects were questioned. On 07/03/2023, one suspect namely Muhammad Yousuf Sheikh S/O Abdul Rehman R/o Raithan Chak Khansahab was called for questioning. CCTV footage from the place of the incident was analyzed and the same corroborated with the version of the victim and which confirmed the involvement of accused in commission of crime.

“The accused has been arrested. On further questioning, the suspect confessed the commission of the crime and on his disclosure following items were recovered which the accused used during commission of crime:02 dummy AK-47 Rifles, Camouflage trouser, Camouflage shirt, 02 sharp-edged knives, 01 Face Mask, 01 Gun Shilling, 01 Rope, 01 Pair of shoes”, he said.

Pertinent to mention that similar incidents were reported by the public to Police station Chadoora & Police Station Charar Shareef in which separate FIRs have been registered. Budgam Police is investigating all cases in which the arrested accused appear to have adopted the same modus operandi to target the masjid going persons during wee hours and snatching their valuable items and cash by threatening them with dummy weapons. Further investigation into the matter is going on.
