Srinagar, Sep 06: Residents of Rawathpora–Baghat Barzulla in Srinagar have made a heartfelt appeal to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene and stop ongoing construction work at the historic MET Ground, a space long cherished as a playground and sporting hub for local youth.
According to a statement issued here, in a passionate appeal, Advocate Jehanzeb Allaqaband said the MET Ground has for decades served as a “cradle of dreams” for children and youngsters. “This ground is not just soil; it is the beating heart of our community, filled with memories, laughter, and aspirations of generations,” he said. Locals expressed anguish over the construction activity, saying the move has left children devastated. Parents said little ones, watching bulldozers replace playfields, have been asking heart-rending questions: “Where will we play now? Where will we chase our dreams? Why was our only hope taken away?” Advocate Allaqaband, voicing the concerns of the community, urged the LG to act as a guardian of fairness and protector of the voiceless. “Hon’ble LG Sahib has always stood by the youth, encouraging sports and cultural growth. That is why our last hope rests in his hands,” he said. The appeal emphasised that the issue is not merely about a piece of land, but about preserving the future of an entire generation. “Denying our children their ground is denying them their childhood, their dreams, and their hope,” Allaqaband added. Residents have urged the administration to immediately halt construction and restore the MET Ground for sports and recreational activities, stressing that its loss would be a deep setback for the community.
