Vadodara, Jan 29: Fantastic performances from the man of the match–Shubham Singh Pundir, promising natter Vivrant Sharma, Speedster Umar Nazir, gutsy Auqib Nabi and young Sahil Lotra helped Jammu and Kashmir to script a win over Baroda by virtue of the first innings lead and earn three vital points to consolidate their position at the points table to vie for the knockout stage in Elite Group-D of the ongoing Ranji Trophy at Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara on Monday.
Earlier, resuming from an overnight score of 26/0, J&K after early hiccups managed to score 193/7 in 76.4 overs before the match was called off as it was heading for a draw.
Sahil Lotra played a magnificent innings of unbeaten 63 runs off 131 balls, studded with 5 fours and one six, while skipper Shubham Khajuria contributed patient 40 runs off 149 balls with 3 fours and one six. Auqib Nabi also curbed his explosive instinct and scored 27 off 59 balls with 4 fours and one six, while wicketkeeper batter Fazil Rashid also contributed valuable 21 runs to the total.
Mahesh Pithiya was the pick of the bowlers for Baroda who took 5 wickets by conceding 82 runs in 26.4 overs, while A. Sheth bagged 2 wickets.
For his brilliant marathon knock of 172 runs, Shubham Singh Pundir was adjudged as the man of the match.
Pundir, Vivrant Sharma, Umar Nazir, Auqib Nabi and Sahil Lotra emerged as the star performers of the match.
“#RanjiTrophy2024. Well played J&K in the 4th match against Baroda. J&K continues to remain unbeaten in the tournament so far. An excellent display of team work. The second innings was held together due to gritty batting of Shubham Khajuria, Sahil Lotra and Auqib Nabi. In the race for knockouts,” tweeted Brig Anil Gupta, Member-Administration JKCA.
