Rainbow Trout Fish Hatchery Technology transferred to Ladakhi fish farmers

Kargil, Apr 25: A live demonstration cum transfer of technology for Rainbow trout seed production based on Recirculatory Aquaculture System (RAS) was held at Town Hall Drass Kargil, UT of Ladakh. 
The demonstration was held under the Research Project “Development and field Validation of low cost Rainbow Trout Hatchery Technology for the Livelihood enhancement of Ladakhi Population” funded by DST New Delhi under the scheme for Young Scientists and Technologists  to  Dr. Mohammad Iqbal Mir, Principal Investigator. 
The program was attended by Murtaza Ali, Assistant Director Fisheries (ADF) Kargil as Chief Guest, Noor Mohammad, Block Development Council, Drass, Haji Mohammad Shafi, Sarpanch, GindiyalDrass, State Fisheries Officials and Fish Farmers of the region. 
Murtaza Ali (ADF) appreciated the efforts of Faculty of Fisheries, Rangil, SKUAST-Kashmir for the development of fisheries sector in the region. He added that development of hatchery technology for rainbow trout fish by the university is a great initiative for the welfare of Department of Fisheries and fish farmers. He informed that the Fisheries Department (Ladakh) has been trying for breeding for a long time for the purpose; this technology transfer in trout fish breeding will play a vital role in socio-economic development of the region. 
Murtaza Ali (ADF) highlighted that this technology will be an advantage for the fish farmers as it is a good source of income generation. He added that it is a proud movement for the Department of Fisheries and apprised the farmers to take the full advantage of the technology and take the fisheries sector forward. 
 
Noor Mohammad (BDC) appreciated the efforts of the university towards the holistic development of the fisheries sector of the region and requested for future development of the technologies based on important issues of the fish farmers for their socioeconomic development. Dr Mohammad Iqbal Mir (P.I., of the Project) explained the relevance and importance of such programs and highlighted the role of Faculty of Fisheries, SKUAST-Kashmir towards the societal developmental objectives of the University.
