In compliance with the order issued by the Special Court Pulwama on November 1, 2023, the Awantipora Police, in collaboration with a territorial magistrate, successfully executed the attachment order of a house belonging to Azad Ahmad Teeli, a known terrorist associate. The operation took place today in the presence of village elders and respected community members at Beighpora in Awantipora.
The property owner, Azad Ahmad Teeli, had been taken into custody in connection with Case FIR No 58/2020 registered at the Awantipora Police Station. He faced charges under Section 19 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for knowingly providing shelter to two deceased terrorists, including the then self-styled chief commander of the banned terror organization Hizbul Mujahideen, Riyaz Naikoo, also known as Zubair-Ul-Islam.
This attachment of the property is being carried out under Section 33 of the UAPA, which mandates attachment proceedings even after the presentation of a charge sheet if such proceedings were not initiated during the investigation phase. This marks the first case of its kind undertaken by the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police emphasize the importance of not sheltering or harboring terrorists. Citizens who do so may face legal action, including the attachment of both movable and immovable properties. The police also urge citizens to promptly report any forced or coercive entry by terrorists into a residence or vehicle to the authorities. Failure to report such incidents immediately may result in legal action, including the seizure or attachment of the involved properties.
