Srinagar, May 19: The Director of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) in Jammu and Kashmir, Subash C Chhibber, reiterated the department’s commitment to leave no stone unturned in discovering and nurturing sports talent in the Union Territory (UT). The promotion of sports talent has been declared the department’s top priority.
In preparation for the upcoming G-20 meeting, the Department of Youth Services and Sports in J&K has launched a massive program of youth engagement across all 20 districts of the UT. The Director of DYSS has directed all district officers in the Kashmir province to ensure maximum participation of students in the activities organized.
In addition to the regular departmental activities outlined in the yearly YS&S calendar, efforts are underway to organize sports activities for senior citizens and specially-abled youth. The department is also actively organizing sports events in connection with the G-20 Summit, raising awareness about the significance, relevance, and benefits of this important event.
As part of this initiative, several events were held on Friday in different sports zones of North Kashmir districts, showcasing the sportsmanship and talent of young players from various schools. These ongoing competitions include Inter-School Zonal Level and Inter-Zonal District Level activities, covering a wide range of disciplines. Both boys and girls actively participated in events such as Yoga, Rope/Skipping, Carrom, and an exhilarating Cross Country run. The competitions were held at different zonal headquarters, providing a platform for young players to display their skills and sportsmanship.
Director Subash C Chhibber expressed his commitment to tapping and tracking the best sports talent among school children and youth, stating that the promotion of sports talent is in full swing across J&K. He emphasized that the department’s field staff is working tirelessly to ensure that every school child is attended to. He further mentioned that students and non-students alike are being encouraged to participate in the games and sports of their choice, leading to an increased involvement of young people in sports. The Youth Services & Sports Department of J&K not only promotes sportsmanship but also contributes to the overall development of the region’s youth. Director Chhibber stated, “These events provide young players with a platform to showcase their talents, foster healthy competition, and nurture their passion for sports.”
Waseem Raja, Joint Director Kashmir of the Department of Youth Services and Sports, praised the department’s field employees for their tireless efforts in generating awareness about the upcoming G-20 Summit through mega sports activities across J&K. He highlighted that the events symbolize India’s commitment to global cooperation and celebrate the nation’s presidency of the G-20 summit. The competitions witnessed impressive participation and enthusiasm, with students proudly representing their schools and showcasing their talents.
In Zone Dangerpora, an Inter-School Zonal Level Cross Country Run witnessed the active participation of 161 students. Similarly, Zone Sopore organized an Inter-School Zonal Level Yoga competition, with over 100 young athletes demonstrating their flexibility and skills.
In Bandipora district, a two-day District Kho Kho tournament for boys under 19 years of age concluded. The tournament witnessed intense competition, with District Budgam emerging as the winning team against District Baramulla. The selected players from this tournament will represent the Kashmir division at the Divisional level, showcasing their talents on a larger stage.
As part of the G-20 awareness campaigns, colorful events were held in Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama, Budgam, and Shopian to create mass awareness about the G-20 and India’s presidency.
