MohdYousuf (name changed), a resident of Kulgamtehsil, is witnessing the realisation of his dream home after overcoming numerous challenges.
Facing housing woes and lacking land to build a shelter, Yousuf’s life took a hopeful turn when assistance from the local administration enabled him to oversee the construction of his own house.
“I had no land at all to build a shelter over my head. But these days, I have successfully completed the base of the house. This has made my life delightful, knowing that I would have never owned a place to live,” shared Yousuf.
Initially sanctioned a PMAY shed, Yousuf’s situation changed when officers realized he lacked the necessary land. However, the Land to Landless scheme proved to be a significant boon for him and his family.
Currently residing in a PanchayatGhar with his wife and three children, Yousuf expresses gratitude to the LG administration, particularly the TehsildarKulgam, for their assistance in demarcation and sanctioning five marlas of land in their own village.
Bilal Ahmad, TehsildarKulgam, highlighted the UT Administration’s decision to provide land to landless individuals under the PradhanMantriAwasYojanaGramin (PMAYG), following the directives of the Deputy Commissioner (DC).
Under this scheme, deserving families without land are carefully vetted to ensure fair distribution. In Kulgam tehsil alone, three families, including Yousuf’s, have been provided land through this initiative.
The scheme encompasses individuals with J&K domicile who do not possess family land or are not entitled to inherit five marlas or more, as per the UT administration’s guidelines.
