Peer Bilal, a senior leader of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), has praised Mr. Shahid Saleem, Vice Chairman of the Lake Conservation Management Authority (LCMA), for his innovative efforts in conserving Dal Lake.
Bilal commended Saleem’s experience, honesty, and dedication throughout his service career.
Interestingly, Bilal noted that the upper area of Phaag, including Block Harwan, was never under LCMA’s jurisdiction since its establishment in 1997.
Locals typically obtained building permissions from the Block Development Office (BDO) Harwan and commercial structure permissions from the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) after completing necessary formalities.
However, Peer Bilal pointed out that LCMA recently issued notices to locals for the first time in 28 years, which has raised concerns. It’s reportedly believed that someone raised the issue as a political stunt.
Peer Bilal, expressed gratitude to the Lake Conservation Management Authority (LCMA) for listening to the concerns of civil society members from the Phaag area regarding recent notices issued.
The LCMA officers assured their support in protecting the interests of local inhabitants who have lived in Phaag for centuries. In return, the locals pledged to cooperate in conserving Dal Lake.
Additionally, Peer Bilal appreciated the public-friendly approach of Mst. Mandeep Kour, IAS Commissioner/Secretary of Housing and Urban Development especially resolving the LCMA issue related to Phaag area.
