Peoples Democratic Party on Tuesday condemned “selective political” targeted demolition of hotel at Sonamarg of party’s leader Bashir Ahmad Mir who contested against Chief Minister Omar Abdullah from Ganderbal constituency in last year’s assembly polls.
“The demolition of Bashir Mir’s property in Sonmarg is a continuation of the injustice he faced under the previous administration, now perpetuated by the newly elected government,” PDP president Mehbooba Mufti said in a post on ‘X’. “In both instances, it is a clear case of selective political targeting, specifically aimed at the PDP. Previously, it was an attempt to silence our voices against the injustice of August 5, 2019; now, it is done to stifle dissent and opposition.”
PDP District president Ganderbal Zahoor Ahmad Rather and PDP leader Shakeel Ahmad Rather also condemned the demolition and termed it “political vengeance”.
Waheed ur Rehman Para said that the demolition was carried out “despite it being fully compliant with all permissions and documents”
“Under the directives of Member parliament from Kangan, the CEO of Sonmarg Development Authority has carried out a targeted demolition of PDP leader Bashir Mir’s hotel, despite it being fully compliant with all permissions and documents,” he said, adding, “This is nothing but political vengeance against someone who dared to contest elections against you.”
He said that the government, which campaigned against BJP’s “bulldozer politics,” is now brazenly using the same tactics to crush local opponents.
“This brazen misuse of power and authoritarian behavior is a direct assault on little left democratic space.”
PDP leader Iltija Mufti in a post of ‘X’ said: “NC government inspired by the Yogi model is now using bulldozer tactics to selectively target PDPs Bashir Mir Sahab only because of their deep intolerance towards any form of opposition. Shameful & unwarranted. Gunda Raj.” (GNS)
