Paucity of funds hits Central govt’s ‘Housing for All’ scheme

Jammu, May 26: Around four hundred cases have not been given financial assistance under the Central government’s ambitious scheme ‘Housing for All’ due to which the people have not started the construction work of their houses.
“There are around 400 cases in Jammu which have not been given financial assistance since long under the ‘Housing for All’ scheme,” Deputy Mayor, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Baldev Billoria informed Rising Kashmir.
“We have time and again urged the Housing and Urban Development Department to release the financial assistance to the deserving beneficiaries but so far nothing has been done,” he added.
Under the ‘Housing for All’ scheme, the Housing and Urban Development Department gives financial assistance of Rs 1.66 lakh to each beneficiary. This financial assistance is released in 4 installments i.e. Rs 42,000 for Plingth (foundation), Rs 42,000 for raising the walls of the house and Rs 42,000 for lanter. The remaining fourth financial assistance is released for other works like plaster, etc. 
The installment of financial assistance is given to the beneficiary in a phased manner i.e. after completion of construction work stage by stage like plingth, raising of walls, linter and other works.
The construction work of the houses of these 400 cases is being stalled at different stages as they have not been provided financial assistance. “We have now again taken up the matter with the concerned authorities to provide financial assistance to the people so that they could construct their houses,” the Deputy Mayor said.        
Due to the paucity of funds, the applications for approval under the ‘Housing for All’ scheme are also not being entertained and cases are not being approved.
“There are many cases which still await approval under this central government’s scheme,” the Deputy Mayor said, adding that they have urged the concerned authorities to expedite the process and approve the cases of deserving people.
