Pulwama – Three gynecology patients at District Hospital (DH) Pulwama reportedly suffered adverse drug reactions, prompting their referral to Srinagar for specialized treatment and evaluation.
Mohammad Maqbool, a local resident, told Rising Kashmir that his pregnant daughter was admitted at DH Pulwama on May 27, 2025, for delivery.
“She was taken for surgery around 3:30 PM and later shifted to the post-operative ward,” Maqbool said, Adding, “After the surgery, she started complaining of severe headache, high blood pressure, dizziness, and profuse sweating.”
Maqbool further stated that around 12:30 AM, doctors administered a painkiller, which provided relief for about half an hour. However, the pain soon returned, and another dose was given. The following morning, doctors ordered a CBSC test.
“The test revealed a high white blood cell (WBC) count,” he said, adding that the doctors then referred her to SMHS Hospital in Srinagar. “Doctors at SMHS suspected the adverse reaction might have been triggered by anesthesia,” Maqbool added.
He confirmed that his daughter has now recovered and was discharged from SMHS on Monday.
Maqbool also said that two other gynecology patients who underwent surgery at DH Pulwama experienced similar complications and were referred to SMHS for further care.
Dr. Abdul Gani Dar, Medical Superintendent at DH Pulwama, confirmed that the suspected drug involved was procured through JKMSCL (Jammu and Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation Limited).
“The matter was immediately taken up with higher authorities, and use of the drug has been halted,” Dr. Dar said. “An official directive from the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir has been issued to all districts to discontinue the drug,” he added.
He said that a formal investigation has been launched, and all three patients are now stable and have been discharged from the hospital.
