Srinagar, Dec 08: The Associated Hospital at GMC Handwara is grappling with a severe shortage of paramedical staff, causing distress for patients in the border district.
Patients from border areas have reported acute problems at the health and wellness center, attributing the challenges to the dearth of paramedical professionals.
Officials from the health department acknowledged the issue, stating that approximately 100 paramedical posts have been advertised, and exams for these positions will be conducted soon.
They mentioned that the forms are currently being sorted, and exams are expected to be conducted soon.
Residents of the border district expressed concerns about the emergency ward, emphasizing the scarcity of staff. They warned that in the event of a tragedy, the limited workforce might struggle to handle the situation effectively.
While there is an adequate number of doctors, the shortage of staff is impeding their work.
Local resident Bilal Ahmad highlighted that the emergency ward, ideally requiring 7-10 employees, currently has only 2-3 present, often including students.
Ahmad further raised concerns about insufficient space, pointing out that overcrowded conditions lead to two patients with different diseases sharing a single bed.
Despite the imminent completion of a new hospital building, authorities have not yet initiated the shift, leaving patients in limbo.
The patients are demanding relocation to the new hospital building, citing critical space constraints in the current facility.
