BJP spokesperson urges parties to prioritise national progress over political posturing
Jammu, Dec 14: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu and Kashmir spokesperson Dr Abhijeet Jasrotia on Saturday endorsed the proposed ‘One Nation, One Election (ONOE)’ bill, describing it as a “visionary reform” essential for ensuring stability, governance efficiency and uninterrupted development.
Addressing a press conference at party headquarters here, Dr Jasrotia accompanied by BJP spokespersons Balbir Ram Rattan and YV Sharma, said the bill seeks to synchronise Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections, ushering in a new era of seamless governance.
He urged all political stakeholders to prioritise national progress over political posturing, saying, “The One Nation, One Election reform is a bold step toward efficiency and democratic maturity. It is time to shift from five-year election cycles to the Viksit Bharat Mode to focus on development and progress.”
The BJP spokesperson criticised the opposition led by CPI(M) leader M.Y. Tarigami from the INDI Alliance, who recently held a press conference opposing the reform. “Mr Tarigami and his allies failed to present a single valid reason to oppose ONOE. Opposing for the sake of opposition reflects the immaturity of the NC-led opposition bloc,” Dr Jasrotia said.
Recalling the history of the ONOE initiative, BJP leader YV Sharma highlighted how it was originally derailed during Congress regimes, depriving the nation of much-needed reform. “This policy has long been advocated as a way to streamline governance and eliminate the constant disruption caused by staggered elections,” he said.
Dr Jasrotia further said, “Frequent elections impose financial and administrative burdens and hinder governance due to the repeated imposition of the Model Code of Conduct. It is time to move past this cycle and let the nation focus on progress rather than perennial electioneering.”
The BJP spokesperson called on citizens to recognise the transformative potential of ONOE and urged political parties to work collectively for the betterment of the nation. “The need of the hour is to let the nation progress under One Nation, One Election. Let us leave behind short-sighted politics and embrace a future of unity, efficiency, and development,” he said.
