One dead, 39 Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrims injured in Samba bus accident

JAMMU, Aug 21: In a tragic road accident, one person was killed and 39 others injured when a Volvo bus carrying Vaishno Devi pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh met with an accident in the Jatla area of Samba district on Thursday, police said.

  • The deceased has been identified as Kripal alias Iqbal (31), son of Harbans, a resident of village Rukhalu, Hasanpur, Amroha district, Uttar Pradesh.

The bus, bearing registration number UP81BT 7688, was en route from Amroha district of Uttar Pradesh to the holy shrine of Vaishno Devi when it reportedly skidded off the road under yet unclear circumstances.

“All 39 injured pilgrims are from Uttar Pradesh,” police officials confirmed. “While 23 of the injured were shifted to District Hospital Samba, another 17 with critical injuries were referred to AIIMS Vijaypur for advanced treatment,” they said.

Authorities confirmed thatall 23 individuals with minor injuries have been dischargedfrom District Hospital Samba after receiving treatment.

The deceased has been identified as Kripal alias Iqbal (31), son of Harbans, a resident of village Rukhalu, Hasanpur, Amroha district, Uttar Pradesh.

Director of AIIMS Jammu,Dr Shakti Gupta, said that 16 of the 17 critically injured patientsbrought to the institute are currentlyadmitted in the Emergency Ward, while one patient is scheduled for surgery.

All victims, including the deceased and injured, are residents ofAmroha district in Uttar Pradesh.

Police said an investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
