Srinagar, Aug 25: The Northern Railway on Monday held a meeting with contractors of Bari Brahmana Goods Shed and logistics traders of the upcoming cargo parcel train service in the Kashmir Valley to discuss expansion and modernization of freight operations.The meeting, chaired by Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Sr. DCM) Jammu Division, Uchit Singhal, was aimed at encouraging private participation in the development of goods sheds and enhancing cargo handling capacity. Contractors raised issues related to modernization, construction of high-level platforms, improved lighting, and better road infrastructure at goods depots.Speaking on the occasion, Singhal said Bari Brahmana has emerged as a crucial station for goods traffic, catering to the requirements of local industries while creating new employment opportunities. “Around 50 inward rakes arrive at the goods shed every month, strengthening the freight infrastructure of the region,” he said.The Sr. DCM also discussed the upcoming joint parcel-producing rapid cargo train, scheduled to run between Budgam railway station in Kashmir and Adarsh Nagar, Delhi. A separate meeting was held with traders of Jammu and Kashmir in this regard, where Assistant Commercial Manager Jaswant Singh was also present.Officials said the cargo service is expected to streamline logistics, integrate multiple service providers, and ensure faster delivery of goods to and from the Valley.
