Srinagar, March 07: The government has clarified that there is currently no proposal for the upgradation of schools under consideration. However, the upgradation of specific schools will be reviewed whenever such a proposal is mooted.
The issue was raised in the Assembly by Mir Mohammad Fayaz through Starred A.Q. No. 1175, seeking an update on the upgradation status of High Schools at Awoora, Gulgam, Manzhar, and Manigah, along with Middle School Cheerkote.
In response, the government stated that only High Schools Awoora and Gulgam were upgraded under Government Order No: 737 Edu of 2014, dated 22/10/2014, as per Cabinet Decision 2014. However, High School Manzhar and Middle School Cheerkote did not meet the feasibility criteria.
Despite their upgradation, the schools could not be made functional as the creation of posts was still awaited. This was conveyed by the Administrative Department to the Directorate of School Education Jammu and Kashmir (DSEJ/K) through a communication dated 16.03.2015.
Regarding Boys High School Manigah, a report from the Chief Education Officer, Kupwara, has been submitted to the Director of School Education, Kashmir. The matter will be considered when a proposal for further upgradation is put forward.
The response was officially provided by the Minister In-Charge of School Education.
