No end to heat wave in Kashmir, Sgr records hottest July day at 35.7 degree Celsius in 25 years

For the second consecutive day on Thursday, Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir recorded the hottest day of season while the heat wave continued across the Valley for the fourth straight day here.

The hottest July day since 1999 was recorded again today in Srinagar at 35.7 degree Celsius compared to yesterday’s 35.6 degree Celsius.

There was a slight dip in the mercury in Kashmir while a few recorded a slight rise as well.

Kokernag, a famous tourist destination, has recorded an all-time highest maximum temperature in July at 33.3 degrees Celsius yesterday while today the mercury settled at 33.0 degree Celsius today, which was the second highest and similar to the previous highest recorded on July 8, 1993.

In Srinagar, the mercury settled at 35.7 degrees Celsius, making it the 11th hottest day in July. The temperature has reached this extent in Srinagar after a gap of 25 years. Yesterday, the mercury was recorded almost similar at 35.6 degree Celsius.

Qazigund, a gateway of Kashmir, recorded a maximum temperature of 32.8 degree Celsius while in Kupwara and Kupwara, the mercury settled at 35.2 degree Celsius and 33.0 degree Celsius.

Gulmarg and Pahalgam recorded a maximum temperature of 25.3 degree Celsius and 30.0 degree Celsius respectively today.

However, the temperatures in the Jammu division plummeted considerably today. In Jammu, the mercury settled at 33.0 degree Celsius while Banihal recorded a maximum temperature of 29.6 degree Celsius.

Batote, Katra and Bhaderwah recorded a maximum temperature of 25.1 degree Celsius, 26.9 degree Celsius and 34.3 degree Celsius respectively.

Moreover, amidst the heat wave, there is a possibility of moderate to heavy rains in Jammu and Kashmir.

“A fresh Western disturbance & Monsoon winds can produce moderate to heavy rain showers in Jammu and Kashmir. During the next 48 hours, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected at most places over J&K while a few places in Jammu region can receive very heavy rainfall during the period,” the forecast reads.

In Kashmir valley, South Kashmir may receive moderate to heavy rain showers, for central & North Kashmir moderate rain showers are expected for next two days, it adds.

Thunderstorms and lightning along with very heavy showers for a short period are expected over some parts. No continuous rainfall is expected during the period, it further reads—(KNO)
