Srinagar, Mar 27: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on Thursday organised a felicitation ceremony to honour teaching and non-teaching staff who excelled in the recently held inter-campus sports events. The event, held at the Community Room, was attended by Incharge Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Roohi Naaz, and Institute’s Registrar, Prof. Atikur Rehman. Both felicitated the awardees and lauded their contributions.
In the Table Tennis category, nine teams participated. The winning team comprised Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. Mohd Shafi Mir and Dr. Gowhar Nabi Tantray, while Dr. Manoj Kumar and Dr. Amandeep Singh Rehal secured the runner-up position. In Chess, which saw participation from 21 players, Dr. Manoj Kumar emerged as the winner, with Dr. Ashok Kumar finishing as the runner-up. The Badminton event featured competition among 11 teams. Dr. Manoj Kumar, Dr. Dinesh Kumar R, and Dr. Sandeep secured the winners’ title, while Executive Engineer (Civil) Dr. Syed Mohsin Shabir, Mr. Sohail Ahmad Baba (SAS Asst.) and Er. Junaid ul Islam finished as runners-up.
In the female category, eight teams competed in Badminton. Dr. Hailiya Ahsan clinched the winner’s title, while SAS Officer Kowsar Ali Mir secured the runner-up position. Similarly, in Table Tennis, Dr. Janani L emerged victorious, with SAS Officer Kowsar Ali Mir finishing as the runner-up. In Chess, SAS Officer Kowsar Ali Mir claimed the winner’s position, while Prof. Shagoofta Rasool Shah finished as the runner-up. Dr. Srinibash Mishra, former SAS Coordinator, was also felicitated by the dignitaries for his vast contributions to the department over the past several years. Speaking on the occasion, Incharge Director Prof. Roohi Naaz highlighted the significance of sports in fostering teamwork, discipline, and overall well-being. “Sports are an integral part of our academic ecosystem. They help develop a spirit of healthy competition and camaraderie among participants. NIT Srinagar remains committed to encouraging sports activities at all levels. Such events not only enhance physical fitness but also promote mental resilience and strategic thinking,” she said. Institute’s Registrar, Prof. Atikur Rehman, congratulated all participants and winners for their dedication and sportsmanship. “Engaging in sports not only improves physical health but also strengthens problem-solving skills and decision-making abilities. Participation in such events contributes to the overall personality development of an individual,” he said. Dr. Manoj Kumar, Coordinator, expressed gratitude for the recognition and emphasized the role of such events in fostering a competitive yet friendly atmosphere within the institute. SAS Officer Mir Kowsar stated that sports provide a refreshing break from routine academic life and enhance teamwork and collaboration. Meanwhile, Sohail Ahmad Baba (SAS Asst.), also highlighted the importance of physical fitness and encouraged more faculty and staff members to actively participate in future sports events.
