Srinagar, Jan 03: Marking a significant milestone in advanced digital education, the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) Deemed-to-be University, operating under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), was officially inaugurated today in Srinagar. The inauguration event, held at the NIELIT campus in Rangreth, was attended virtually by Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology.
The inauguration of NIELIT Srinagar marks a major milestone for the region, particularly in advancing education in emerging technologies. NIELIT Srinagar aims to equip students with cutting-edge knowledge and skills to drive India’s digital transformation. The university will offer specialized programs in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Blockchain, and more.
Ali Mohd Dar, MLA of Chadoora Budgam, expressed his support for the initiative, stating, “I am pleased to see the inauguration of NIELIT Srinagar.”
Mrs. Saritlata, Chief Postmaster General of J&K, emphasized the importance of technology, saying, “NIELIT opens up exciting opportunities for the youth of Srinagar to transform their dreams into reality.”
Dr. Seema Naaz, Nodal Principal of Colleges Kashmir Division, added, “The growth of an academic institution like NIELIT Srinagar contributes to the advancement of the nation as a whole.”
Saifuddin Bhat, MLA Khansahib Budgam, said, “It is heartening to learn about the inauguration of NIELIT Srinagar. Our region is home to many talented students, and I encourage them to fully embrace this opportunity for their personal and professional growth.”
Ashaq Hussain Dar, Director-in-charge of NIELIT J&K, shared insights into the university’s expanded role, stating, “NIELIT Srinagar has transitioned from a skilling institute to a full-fledged university offering a blend of academic programs and skill development. This approach will ensure that students are industry-ready and well-equipped to excel in the tech-driven world.”
One of the key features of NIELIT Srinagar is its job fairs, designed to help students secure positions with leading companies in the tech sector. Additionally, the university plans to establish an incubation center to support startups and foster entrepreneurship. Through collaborations with the J&K State Industrial Development Corporation (SIDCO) and the Department of Science & Technology Srinagar, the university will offer seed funding to emerging ventures. “Our goal is to provide world-class education and skill development, empowering students to not only secure jobs but also to become job creators,” Dar added.
The launch of NIELIT Srinagar aligns with the government’s push for digital literacy and the development of emerging technologies in India. As the country strives to become a global leader in digital transformation, institutions like NIELIT Srinagar play a pivotal role in shaping the future workforce. By focusing on cutting-edge technology programs and fostering innovation through research and development, NIELIT Srinagar will help bridge the skills gap and contribute to India’s growing tech industry.
