Jammu, Aug 29: The two-member high-level technical team of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) on Tuesday visited Jammu and inspected in detail the damages caused to the Tarnah Bridge in the Chadwal area of Jammu region on the national highway.
The team also inspected the causeway which is being put in place as an alternative due to damages to the Tarnah to streamline the vehicular movement of the Jammu-Pathankot Highway.
“We will go to Samba and Jammu also to inspect the entire stretch of the highway from Lakhanpur to Jammu,” DC Kathua, Rakesh Minhas, said while responding to media queries.
The NHAI team, however, did not comment on the suspension of toll collection at Sarore Toll Plaza. “A lot of things have come to the fore during our inspection and it is expected that a permanent solution would soon be found out,” the DC said.
Regarding the suspension of toll collection at Sarore Plaza, one of the NHAI team members said, “It is a policy decision and some time must be given to find a permanent solution”.
The NHAI team has reached Jammu on the directions of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari after the BJP leaders called on him and demanded the suspension of toll collection at Sarore Toll Plaza.
Widespread protests were being held across the Jammu region against toll collection at Sarore Toll Plaza. Yuva Rajput Sabha (YRS) spearheaded these protests demanding suspension of toll collection at Sarore Toll Plaza as a large portion of the Jammu-Pathankot Highway has been damaged due to rains and traffic has been diverted.
On the 26th of this month, the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCI), with the support of the Congress Party, National Conference (NC), People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and other organisations, gave a Jammu bandh call against toll collection at Sarore Toll Plaza.
Rising Kashmir has already reported that Sarore Toll Plaza will be shifted to Thandi Khui i.e. around 4 km back towards Samba.
