Srinagar, Feb 22: After remaining closed for three days due to mudslides, shooting stones, vehicular movement on the Srinagar-Jammu highway was restored Saturday and stranded vehicles were being cleared, officials said.
SSP Ramban& SSP Traffic NHW, Mohita Sharma said a single carriageway is through Shalgari, Banihal. The stranded vehicles are to be allowed first, she said.
A traffic spokesman said the Jammu Srinagar highway remained blocked for 22 hrs 50 mins during the past 24 hours due to shooting stones, landslide near Sherbibi.
He further said that the National Highway Authority of India has been directed by the Govt. to repair and maintenance works on NH-44 between Nashri and NAVYUG Tunnel. Because of this necessary repair work, traffic will remain suspended from Nashri towards NAVYUG Tunnel and vice versa from 0600 hrs on 24th February to 0600 hrs on 25th February 2023,” he said.
The spokesman said moreover, similar dry days on NH-44 will also be observed on the 3rd and 10th March 2023,” he said.
“On Thursday, subject to fair weather and road clearance, LMVs passenger, private Cars shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. TCU Jammu, Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the traffic, he said.
Earlier, on Monday, the highway was closed for traffic following landslides and shooting stones at several places along the highway.
