“Erratic weather will continue across Kashmir until April 10,” says MeT
RK Online Desk , March 31 : Fresh snowfall in the upper reaches of Kashmir, coupled with intermittent rain in the plains, has disrupted normal life across the Valley, with temperatures dipping sharply over the past few days. The wet weather has triggered landslides, snow depth, and road blockages, affecting transport and daily life in multiple districts. Heavy snowfall and landslides have stranded vehicles along key roads, particularly near Razdan Top on the Bandipora-Gurez route. District administration teams, along with the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and other local authorities, conducted coordinated rescue operations, evacuating 22 vehicles carrying tourists and residents. All stranded passengers were provided medical aid and other assistance. A massive landslide in Uri, Baramulla, blocked the main road, prompting immediate deployment of
machinery and personnel to clear debris. Roads in Kupwara, Bandipora, Ganderbal, and Anantnag have also been affected by snow, mudslides, and falling rocks. Authorities have urged commuters to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel in these areas. Impact on Agriculture and Daily Life The ongoing wet spell has disrupted farming activities across the Valley. Authorities have advised farmers to suspend agricultural work until April 1 and resume only when conditions improve. Transport services remain affected due to blocked roads and hazardous conditions, while daily routines continue to be hampered in both urban and rural areas.
