Srinagar, Apr 6 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said a probe into the alleged fake encounter in Ganderbal should be conducted without delay, adding that the truth must be placed before the public.

Speaking to reporters, Abdullah said judicial or magisterial inquiries take time and may not be feasible to initiate immediately due to procedural constraints.

"I will not call for a judicial or magisterial inquiry because it takes time. It is not easy to get a sitting or retired judge. I want an inquiry without wasting time so that the truth is put before the people," he said.

He said the course adopted by the Lieutenant Governor for an inquiry was appropriate and should be allowed to proceed.

“I think the way the LG has taken, the judicial inquiry is right. Let the inquiry do its job. The truth will be kept in front of the people,” he added.

On a question regarding the situation in the Middle East, Abdullah said there was concern over the ongoing conflict and called for an early end to hostilities.

Referring to remarks by Donald Trump, Abdullah questioned the language used in public communication.

“The way the President of the United States is using the language, it does not suit his office. The words used are such that we cannot repeat them. He should take care of his office,” he said.

Abdullah said the continuation of the conflict would increase difficulties globally.

“As far as the war is concerned, we are all worried. The longer it goes on, the more difficult it will be for all of us,” he said.

He expressed hope for an early ceasefire to restore normalcy.

“We are hoping for a ceasefire as soon as possible so that the war ends and the situation becomes normal again,” he added.(KNS).
