Handwara, April 6: The shopkeepers of Zachaldara in north Kashmir’s Handwara on Monday observed complete shutdown against the authorities for failing to provide them basic facilities like proper drainage system, proper sanitation and proper space for Sumo stand.
The aggrieved shopkeepers from Zachaldara market downed their shutters protesting against the administration for failing to provide them the basic facilities.
They said that they had been raising their concerns with the tehsil and block development offices regularly, but they are being only given assurances from the departments.
AS per them the Tehsil headquarter lack basic infrastructure and being a border area, Zachaldara has been completely neglected by the administration.
They opened their shutters only after officials from the locality assured them that measures will be taken to provide all basic facilities.
The shopkeepers said a market complex was supposed to be constructed in the area and land had already been identified, but no steps have been taken so far to construct the same.
The Tehsildar of the area visited the aggrieved shopkeepers and assured them that he has clear directions from higher officials to provide all basic facilities to the traders.
The shopkeepers said there are hundreds of unemployed youth who have set up shops to earn their livelihood, but in absence of proper sanitation, drainage system and space for a bus Sumo stand, customer footfall remains low.
They warned that if their demands are not met on time, they will hit the roads.
