‘Need to promote Punjabi language, literature and culture in J&K’

Baramulla July 31: Jammu Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages organised a daylong seminar on Punjabi poetry and cultural programme under the guidance of its Secretary, Bharat Singh (JKAS), at Baramulla. 
In the inaugural session, Popinder Singh Paras, editor of Sheeraza Punjabi welcomed the writers and said, “Punjabi language has a unique sweetness and impact and it’s therefore important to hold seminars like these to further popularise and promote Punjabi language, literature and culture in every region of Jammu and Kashmir.”
Principal Guru Nanak Dev Model High School Harjinder Kour, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said, “There is more need than ever before today to revive traditional languages for the young generation. In the future, our aim is to conduct more seminars to give more opportunity to youth to showcase their talents.” 
Several writers from different areas present their poetry including S S Sodhi, Gurnam Singh Arshi, Damodar Singh, Daljit Singh Paras, Dalbir Kour, Ravinder Kour, Sumanpreet Kour, H S Upashak, Kewalpal Singh, Arshdeep Singh Hussain Shabnam, Lala Shakir, and others.
Gurnaam Singh, a senior Punjabi writer while talking to Rising Kashmir hailed the academy’s efforts of organising the literary and cultural programs at various places of the region to sharpen the skills of the youth who are interested in writing and to promote the Punjabi language.
The book ‘Baba Deep Singh – Life and Legacy’, written by Jasbir Singh Sarna, was also launched at the event.
A cultural programme was presented in which Gidha (Punjabi folk dance) was performed by budding students of Guru Nanak Dev Model High School Baramulla. The program was conducted by Sukhpreet Kour whereas Sulinder Singh Sodhi, president of Punjabi Sahit Sabha Baramulla expressed gratitude to the speakers for delivering an “inspiring and informative talk”.
