Srinagar, Sept 11: National Conference (NC) State Spokesperson, Imran Nabi Dar on Thursday welcomed the Indian Railways’ decision to operate two dedicated parcel vans for the transportation of apples from Kashmir Valley to Jammu and Delhi.
“The initiative would provide much-needed relief to the horticulture sector, which has been severely impacted by the prolonged closure of National Highway-44 (Srinagar-Jammu highway) due to recent torrential rains and flooding in the region,” he said in a statement issued here.
Highlighting the significance of the move, Dar said, “This step will help mitigate the losses faced by fruit growers and traders who have been grappling with disruptions and closure of NH44. Ensuring a smooth supply chain for perishable goods like fruits is crucial for sustaining the valley’s economy.”
The spokesperson appreciated the efforts of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in pushing for the much-needed initiative aimed at supporting Kashmir’s agrarian and horticultural community. The NC, he said, committed to advocating for the welfare of farmers and growers across the region.
