Pulwama, Nov 07: Member of Parliament for the Srinagar-Budgam constituency, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi on Thursday said the National Conference (NC) government has begun fulfilling promises made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir in its election manifesto.
Addressing a gathering in south Kashmir’s Tral township after visiting various government departments, Ruhullah said although the Omar Abdullah-led government is only 15 days old, it has already started to deliver on its commitments.
“The vacant posts are being referred to recruitment boards,” he said, adding that every cabinet meeting is approving new posts.
Aga said a decision is being taken to provide 200 units of free electricity to people, a promise made in the NC’s manifesto. He, however, said that the most significant step was the decision to pass a resolution in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly for the restoration of J&K’s special status.
“Through this resolution, we conveyed that the decisions taken on August 5, 2019, were unilateral and unacceptable to the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said, adding, “On that day, the people of Jammu and Kashmir were stripped of their dignity and identity.”
He criticised the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for demanding the resolution to follow a specific format and use particular terms. “Irrespective of its pattern, this resolution aims to convey to the BJP that the decisions they made on August 5, 2019, were unconstitutional and lacked the concurrence of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly,” he said, stressing that these decisions were unacceptable to the people of the region.
Ruhullah said the resolution calls on the central government to start a dialogue with the people of Jammu and Kashmir to restore their dignity and identity. “We don’t want them to talk to us for government formation, as was done in 2014,” he said.
The MP clarified that any talks are conditional, with the primary condition being the restoration of all rights that were taken away in 2019. He cautioned people to be wary of those who seek to mislead and create confusion in their minds.
During the occasion, the MP assured Tral residents that he would raise their public grievance issues at appropriate forums to seek their redressal. He particularly assured them that he would seek the upgradation of the Sub-DIstrict Hospital (SDH) Tral.
