Srinagar, Nov 04: “The Legislative Assembly is a serious house for serious discussions; it’s not about scoring points. People want their pressing issues such as unemployment, farmers’ concerns, and media rights addressed,” Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Kulgam said on Monday.
The CPI(M) leader was speaking to reporters following the first day of the Assembly here. “I just wanted to share that the first day went very well, and on this occasion, I would like to congratulate the people of J&K, as it’s been a long time since the legislators had the opportunity to sit together,” he said. “As legislators, we got the chance to sit together and listen to each other’s speeches and discussions. When it comes to the issues, the time has come for a fresh start, which will unfold in the coming days.
Tarigami added, “People’s rights have been taken away, and it’s not about scoring points. We haven’t come here to play cricket or score points. We want a serious discussion on the issues facing the unemployed, the media, farmers and citizens. This is a serious house for serious issues, and I am hopeful that in the times ahead, more discussions will be held on these important matters.”
The CPI(M) leader reiterated that the administration and government will be held accountable, which he firmly believes. “Every question will be discussed and addressed openly, and while there is no restriction, today’s tasks will be completed today, and what’s meant for tomorrow will be awaited as well,” he said.
