Ganderbal, June 03: In a spirited effort to raise awareness against substance abuse, the Department of Youth Services and Sports Ganderbal, in collaboration with the district administration and the District Social Welfare Office Ganderbal, organized a Mini Marathon for men across all age groups under the banner of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan Drug-Free India Campaign.
The marathon witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 150 students and staff members representing various colleges and universities of the district. The race was flagged off from the picturesque lawns of the Mini Secretariat Ganderbal by Additional District Development Commissioner Ganderbal, Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, alongside District Youth Services and Sports Officer Ganderbal, Sheikh Shafqat Iqbal, and other officials of the department. The marathon route traversed the Fatehpora-Gadoora stretch and concluded at the gates of the Government College of Physical Education, Gadoora. Participants displayed exceptional energy and determination, promoting the message of a healthy and drug-free lifestyle. In recognition of their commendable performance, the top ten finishers were felicitated by the ADDC Ganderbal, who lauded their efforts and commitment to the cause. While addressing the participants, Bhat emphasized the importance of such awareness programs in curbing the growing menace of drug addiction. He encouraged the youth to steer clear of drugs and instead engage in constructive and productive pursuits. He also shed light on various government schemes aimed at empowering the youth through skill development and self-employment opportunities.
